ABOUT THE PROJECT
A gripping true crime series exploring the 1984 disappearance of 12-year-old Jonelle Matthews, one of the first missing children to be featured on a milk carton. The series delves deep into the mystery that caused the case to remain unsolved for 35 years.

SCENE BREAKDOWNS

To add an analogue retro aesthetic and unique video glitches to the sequence, I utilized my CRT TV and video synthesizer setup. A video synthesizer is a device that manipulates analog video signals, producing unique glitches and distortions that are impossible to achieve with digital effects. Below, you can see the setup and some examples of the out of camera results before being treated in post.

TITLE SEQUENCE CONCEPTS & PITCH

CONCEPT 01 - SPLIT

To visually represent the 35-year gap in the Jonelle Matthews case, I used a split-screen approach with an analogue glitch aesthetic to create a separation between the past and the present. By aligning the footage compositionally across the split screen, the visuals become more cohesive, giving a deeper connection between the two timelines.

CONCEPT 02 - VICE

For the second concept, I focused on capturing the eerie atmosphere of the cold winter landscape of Greeley, the town where the crime occurred. Through the use of the double exposure technique and a deep blue colour treatment, I was able evoke a ghostly feeling to the aesthetic.

FINAL SEQUENCE FRAMES

IN-SHOW GRAPHICS

In addition to designing the title sequence, I created all the in-show graphics including; text-on-screen, document treatments, archive treatments and screen replacement vfx, delivering over 100 sequences for the series. Below is a small selection of these, showcasing the range of graphics created to enhance the visual storytelling whilst still maintaining a cohesive design aesthetic.
